Background for the course
This course was created after we identified a need for a comprehensive vaccination course for land-based aquaculture. This need aligned with what PHARMAQ part of Zoetis had observed among its customers. We shared a common view on the importance of communicating knowledge about vaccination in a simple, clear, and educational way. As a result, we decided to initiate a project to develop a dedicated vaccination course. We are now very pleased that the project has been completed, and we hope that many will see the value of such a course and use it as a tool to raise competence across the industry.
Why do we vaccinate – and why is correct vaccination so important?
Vaccination is one of the most important preventive measures we have in the aquaculture industry to ensure good fish health. By vaccinating fish, we build immunity against serious diseases and reduce the need for medical treatment later in production. This contributes to better animal welfare, increased survival, and more sustainable operations. At the same time, it is crucial that vaccination is carried out correctly, both technically and hygienically. Incorrect injection site, insufficient anesthesia, or poor hygiene can lead to injuries, infections, or reduced vaccine effectiveness. Therefore, it is essential that those performing vaccination have the right competence, ensuring the process is safe for both fish and operator. Correct vaccination simply delivers better results – for the fish, for the environment, and for the entire industry.
What will you learn?
The course covers everything you need to know about fish vaccination, from what a vaccine is, the different types available, and how they are developed, to the vaccination process itself. You will gain insight into preparation, anesthesia, injection site and deposition, hygiene, and assessment of side effects.
Practical and flexible
You choose the order of the topics yourself and receive questions after each module. You can improve your results, and the answers can be found in the videos shown. Simple, effective, and adapted to your everyday work.
